Henkel has been included in the newly created Global Challenges Index as one of 50 exceptional corporate sustainability performers. The new index was recently launched at a press conference in Hamburg.
Düsseldorf/Hamburg. “The inclusion of Henkel in the Global Challenges Index confirms that our sustainability strategy and our dedication to corporate social responsibility are also understood and appreciated by external organizations,” comments Uwe Bergmann, Head of Sustainability Issue Management at Henkel. At the opening event in Hamburg, Bergmann was invited to describe how Henkel contributes to a sustainable development through its brands and technologies, using the example of climate change.
The newly established Global Challenges Index is a joint initiative of BÖAG Börsen AG and the Munich-based sustainability rating agency oekom research AG, the originator of the concept behind the new index. Henkel is one of just 50 companies worldwide to be selected for inclusion. In compiling this index, oekom research analyzed 900 enterprises from around the world.
The companies in the Global Challenges Index were subjected to a strict selection process. First, oekom identified those companies which most notably considered ecological and social aspects in their business segments. The companies selected for inclusion in the index demonstrated a strong ability to address global challenges like climate change, poverty, drinking water scarcity, sustainable forestry, biodiversity and demographical developments, while simultaneously taking advantage of new market opportunities.
