Vera D.

How did you arrive in your field?
Actually, it was quite straightforward. For one thing, I studied marketing, and for another– because of my interest in fragrances and scented products – I ended up in the field of consumer goods.
And why Henkel?
Before Henkel I worked in the marketing department of an international fragrances company that created the aromasscents for consumer goods such as cosmetics and washing powders. After five years in B-to-B marketing I wanted to move into classic brand management. That’s why I turned to Henkel: because it is a highly respected company with quality outstanding brands. I applied, and was offered a position.
What jobs have you already done?
I started as an International Brand Manager in the cosmetics division where I was responsible for Fa deodorants and all Henkel fragrances such as La Perla, Scorpio and Ferrari. Since April 2006 I have had the opportunity to get to know the world of Henkel’s detergents and the work of the German marketing department. I now manage the WC Frisch and WC Ente products.
Which projects have been memorable?
My involvement in the recent re-launch of the Fa brand was a marvellous opportunity for me. We worked really hard on the positioning of the brand – analysing where we were, and where we wanted to be. For me, seeing this important re-launch through was a major challenge.
What do you like about your job?
I like the fact that Brand Management is so very varied, and that one is therefore constantly learning. Any re-launch or launch involves close teamwork with the most diverse departments – a highly creative process which is demanding in terms of communication, and out of which emerge many interesting discussions and ramifications. I find such collaboration extremely stimulating. Apart from that, Henkel has exceptionally successful and attractive brands and it is a real pleasure to be involved in their management and development. I am very proud when I see how “my” new products end up in the market place. It’s also important for me that work should be fun since one spends so much time in the office – and that’s something that is not overlooked here at Henkel.
